LEXPARK Green Initiative
At LEXPARK we take "going green" very seriously. The parking industry as a whole has honestly been slow to respond to this important movement, but we are proud to say that recently that is changing and changing in a big way. The International Parking Institute made the theme of their 2008 Conference & Exhibition BECOMING GREENER: Creating a Sustainable Future (visit IPI's website www.parking.org).
Locally, we are rolling out some great initiatives and listed below are just a few of our ideas and programs.
- All letters and forms will be printed on recycled paper and printed on both sides when possible.
- Monthly reports will be submitted electronically.
- Our enforcement agents "Outriders" either walk, or will utilize all electric 3-wheel vehicles called Chariots. (shown at right)
- On-street meter collections and maintenance staff will also use Chariots, to the extent possible.
- If a full sized vehicle is used for on-street management, it will be a hybrid or a very efficient substitute.
- All single space parking meters are battery operated. Any new multi-space meters (pay stations) will be solar powered.
- Offices and vendors related to the Parking Authority will be encouraged to recycle.
- The new on-street management plan will hopefully create more availability of on-street spaces to decrease the amount of cruising and circling looking for a parking space downtown. Recent studies have shown up to 30% of the VMT (Vehicle Miles Traveled) in a downtown is caused by cruising and circling. (people looking for parking)
- The Parking Authority & Republic Parking will be evaluating the existing lighting in the off-street facilities to determine not only lighting sufficiency, but also the most efficient lighting possible.
Please feel free to give us more ideas on how we can become greener.
