LEXPARK Green Initiative

American Chariot

At LEXPARK we take "going green" very seriously. The parking industry as a whole has honestly been slow to respond to this important movement, but we are proud to say that recently that is changing and changing in a big way. The International Parking Institute made the theme of their 2008 Conference & Exhibition BECOMING GREENER: Creating a Sustainable Future (visit IPI's website www.parking.org).

Locally, we are rolling out some great initiatives and listed below are just a few of our ideas and programs.

  1. All letters and forms will be printed on recycled paper and printed on both sides when possible.
  2. Monthly reports will be submitted electronically.
  3. Our enforcement agents "Outriders" either walk, or will utilize all electric 3-wheel vehicles called Chariots. (shown at right)
  4. On-street meter collections and maintenance staff will also use Chariots, to the extent possible.
  5. If a full sized vehicle is used for on-street management, it will be a hybrid or a very efficient substitute.
  6. All single space parking meters are battery operated. Any new multi-space meters (pay stations) will be solar powered.
  7. Offices and vendors related to the Parking Authority will be encouraged to recycle.
  8. The new on-street management plan will hopefully create more availability of on-street spaces to decrease the amount of cruising and circling looking for a parking space downtown. Recent studies have shown up to 30% of the VMT (Vehicle Miles Traveled) in a downtown is caused by cruising and circling. (people looking for parking)
  9. The Parking Authority & Republic Parking will be evaluating the existing lighting in the off-street facilities to determine not only lighting sufficiency, but also the most efficient lighting possible.

Please feel free to give us more ideas on how we can become greener.
